My essay on Sargon Boulus, born today in 1944. It was written in 2010, republished in 2013, and revived by Barakunan in 2021. It's here now. ๐ถ And news full of music ๐ถ
Encapsulates an experience of the back then and now. Wonderful to read about Sargon Boulos from you. The musical piece you've linked is by Olfar Arnalds? My favorite these days and his music goes well with the ambience you have created.
Beautiful piece on your friend Sargon. Also took me back to winter in Marrakesh (2018) in a cold riad with internet glitches, on the trail of Goytisolo of whom I'd read but a little. You generate memories of San Francisco when as a relatively young (thirty-four) unpublished poet reading at Cafe Babar and Fort Mason; and meeting Gregory Corso in Cafe Trieste. It's the vagabond's life that I enjoyed a lot and from which I seem to have become a bit disengaged lately in this torn-up world of ours. Lovely to read your writing. Looking forward to hearing more of your novella. Des
